Healing Field of Honor: A Tribute to Heroes
An Inspirational Event Returns
The Punta Gorda Rotary Club is excited to announce the return of a cherished community event, the Healing Field of Honor, which will take place from November 9 to 11 at beautiful Laishley Park in Punta Gorda. This event aims to honor veterans, first responders, and heroes who have shown remarkable courage and dedication to our country.
A Sea of Red, White, and Blue
This year, one thousand American flags will be on display, creating a stunning visual tribute that symbolizes the sacrifices made by countless individuals. Each flag is not just a piece of fabric; it carries a heartfelt dedication to a veteran or hero from various backgrounds, including those who served in World War II, Korea, Vietnam, the Gulf War, and more recent conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. Additionally, local heroes such as first responders, doctors, and nurses will also be recognized.

Honoring Our Heroes
Alicia Oates, the president of the Punta Gorda Rotary Club, shared her thoughts about the event: “The Healing Field of Honor is a powerful way for our community to come together and pay tribute to our veterans and local heroes. It’s an opportunity to show our appreciation for their sacrifices and the freedoms we enjoy because of them.”
Community members are invited to purchase a flag for $40, dedicating it to a veteran, hero, or organization. This simple act of honor serves as a reminder of the bravery and dedication displayed by those we hold in high esteem.
Event Schedule & Special Ceremony
The Healing Field of Honor will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., starting on Sunday, November 9, and continuing through Veterans Day on Tuesday, November 11. A poignant ceremony is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Veterans Day, featuring keynote speakers, proclamations, and the chance for visitors to walk through the field, reading the dedication tags attached to each flag. Taps will be played every evening at 5 p.m., further enhancing the solemn atmosphere of reflection and remembrance.
Bringing Flags Home
After the event concludes on November 12, those who purchased flags will have the opportunity to take theirs home as a meaningful keepsake. This gesture allows individuals to not only honor their heroes publicly but also cherish that memory privately.
Volunteer Opportunities
Oates stated that volunteers are vital to the success of the Healing Field of Honor. If you wish to help in placing and taking down the flags, you can reach out by calling or texting Oates at 941-646-8820. Your participation will help make this event even more special.
Sponsorship and Support
Flags can be purchased, and individuals or businesses can also sign up to sponsor the event at Punta Gorda Rotary. Sponsorship levels range from $150 to $5,000, and each sponsor will receive recognition through field banners and other perks. The funds raised will support local veteran programs and initiatives that benefit the community, demonstrating that engaging in collective remembrance can also aid those in need.
