NEW YORK (AP) — Dolly Parton “ain’t dead yet,” the country superstar declared on social media Wednesday after widespread speculation regarding her health. In a candid, two-minute video posted on Instagram, the 79-year-old singer reassured her fans, saying, “There are just a lot of rumors flying around. But I figured if you heard it from me, you’d know that I was okay.” Parton emphasized, “I’m not ready to die yet. I don’t think God is through with me. And I ain’t done working.” This direct approach to addressing concerns reflects Parton’s longstanding connection with her audience, showing once again why she remains a beloved figure in the world of music.

Her recent post, which circulated on multiple social media platforms alongside her official website, included the forthright caption: “I ain’t dead yet.” This humorous yet reassuring message was aimed at quelling the rising tide of speculation about her well-being. Parton had previously postponed her first Las Vegas residency in over three decades due to “health challenges,” further fueling public concern. Set initially for performances from December 4 to December 13, these shows at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace have now been rescheduled to September 2026.

While she did not elaborate much on the specifics of her health during the initial postponement announcement, Parton humorously compared her health checks to a car needing maintenance, quipping, “It must be time for my 100,000-mile check-up, although it’s not the usual trip to see my plastic surgeon!” These light-hearted remarks showcase her signature ability to blend humor with vulnerability, allowing fans to feel connected and informed rather than alarmed.

In the video clip released on Wednesday, Parton appeared lively while addressing her audience, explaining that she was gearing up to recording commercials for the Grand Ole Opry, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary. “Everyone thinks that I am sicker than I am. Do I look sick to you? I’m working hard here!” she stated, adding, “I wanted to put everybody’s mind at ease.” She expressed gratitude for the prayers and well-wishes from her fans, demonstrating her genuine appreciation for their support.

Parton’s sister, Freida Parton, inadvertently heightened concerns about Dolly’s health with a Facebook post in which she mentioned praying for her sister. This message led to confusion, prompting Freida to clarify that her intentions were not to alarm anyone but simply to ask for prayers during a time of challenge. “She’s been a little under the weather,” Freida explained in her follow-up post, acknowledging the power of prayer as a source of strength and comfort.

During her video, Dolly also touched upon her personal struggles following the passing of her husband of nearly 60 years, Carl Dean. Reflecting on this loss, she noted, “I didn’t take care of myself. So I let a lot of things go that I should’ve been taking care of.” Parton’s candid admission resonates deeply, allowing fans to understand that even icons face moments of vulnerability and hardship.

As she continued to reassure her audience, Parton shared that she’s currently undergoing treatment for some minor health issues and emphasized that nothing was major. “We need to take care of this. We need to take care of that,” she recounted her doctor’s advice, reflecting a responsible approach to health care as she navigates her 70s. Her witty close further lightened the mood. “If I was really dying, I don’t think Reba would be the one at my death bed. She might come visit me earlier,” she joked, underscoring her trademark humor.

Dolly Parton’s ability to candidly communicate with her fans continues to enhance her legacy. By offering a glimpse into her personal challenges while maintaining her lighthearted spirit, she remains a cherished figure in the music industry, embodying resilience and authenticity.
