The Rise of Simonas Ankstutis: A Soccer Sensation in Georgetown
Connecting Through Competition
In the bustling community of Georgetown, soccer runs deep in the veins of its youth athletes. Among them, Simonas Ankstutis stands out as a formidable player for the Georgetown-Ridge Farm/Westville boys’ soccer team. Having played alongside teammates Ryley Heck and Matt Darling for four seasons, the trio knows well the dynamics of teamwork and rivalry. Ankstutis recalls facing off against Heck in youth finals, forming a bond shaped by competition and mutual respect.
“I always collided with Ryley in the finals,” Ankstutis reflects. “Those experiences helped strengthen our friendship and understanding on the field.”
An Offensive Powerhouse
With an impressive tally of 57 goals in just 16 matches this season, Ankstutis has become a critical asset to the Buffaloes’ success. His ability to net goals not only boosts his confidence but also lifts the team’s spirit.
“I still feel amazing after every single one of my goals,” Ankstutis expresses. “When I score, it motivates everyone to step up their game.”
Despite their early season record of 9-7, the team thrives on the energy generated by Ankstutis’s scoring prowess. For his teammates, catching the wave of his success has been a rewarding journey.
A Legacy of Passion
Soccer isn’t just a game for Ankstutis; it’s a family tradition. His father, Vytautas, played professionally in Lithuania, igniting Simonas’s passion for the sport.
“Watching my father play and understanding his journey was a significant inspiration,” Ankstutis shares. “I started playing because of him, and my love for soccer only grew.”
The opportunity to split his time between Lithuania and Georgetown has enriched Simonas’s skills. While he often plays as a left back abroad, the experience has sharpened his tactical understanding of the game.
“The speed of play is on a different level there,” he notes. “Players think three seconds ahead, which can be a challenging adjustment.”
Guidance and Growth
Georgetown-Ridge Farm/Westville coach Josh Odle emphasizes how rare it is to encounter talent like Ankstutis. His enthusiasm for Simonas’s potential is evident, noting the excitement that his skills bring to his teammates.
“I’m really excited for Simonas’s future,” Odle remarks. “Playing alongside someone of his caliber is inspiring for all the boys.”
Even faced with increased scrutiny from opponents, Ankstutis maintains a level-headed approach.
“He understands it’s just a game,” Odle says. “No matter how tough the match gets, he keeps his composure.”
The Dynamics of Team Play
Ankstutis’s outstanding performance has resulted in him being the main target for opposing teams. However, he has remarkable support from teammates like Ryley Heck, whose 28 assists this season highlight their potent on-field synergy.
“Heck is wonderful to have on the team,” Ankstutis says. “He knows where the open runs are, making it easy for me to position myself for scoring opportunities.”
In turn, goalkeeper Matt Darling appreciates having Ankstutis in front of him.
“When Simonas has the ball, I feel the pressure lessen on me because he draws defenses to him,” Darling explains. “The offense’s strength is essential to our overall game.”
Embracing the Future
As Odle continues to work with Ankstutis and his senior teammates, he expresses a desire to have coached them longer.
“I see immense growth from last year to this year,” Odle says. “Simonas is mentally focused, and it shows in how he plays.”
With aspirations to bring home a regional title, Ankstutis and his team aim to elevate Georgetown’s soccer legacy.
“It would mean everything to us,” Ankstutis concludes. “Seeing our team thrive, even after we’re gone, would be an incredible legacy.”
Through teamwork, dedication, and an inspiring passion for soccer, Simonas Ankstutis continues to captivate not only his teammates but also the wider Georgetown community.
